Happy Anniversary to Us!  10 Years ago today Scotty and I were married.  This pic just happened to be the oldest one on my computer of the two of us.  So here it is; we both weighed a bit less, had less wrinkles, Scotty had less gray hairs, I had less belly flab and age spots,
and we both could stand unassisted.  However, there are some benefits to time and those would be:
We've become more patient.
We understand each other better.
We've seen each other's inner strength and determination.
We've been extremely happy together.
We've been extremely sad together.
We still make each other laugh.
We've seen 4 children come into our home.
We love each other on a deeper level.

Here's to the next 10 years!  I love you Scott.

Is there a Doctor in the house?

I had a doctor's appointment today.
I had my questions pre-planned because this guy doesn't waste time, he' s in he's out he's on with it.
So first I asked him how to feel how high my uterus was?  Turns out you need a medical degree, or at least a ton of practice.  Mine was in just the right spot to be 16+ weeks.

Ok, next question, Then why is my belly so huge?  It's never felt so big so soon before.
Turns out "it's just flabby and you've got some gas".

I literally laughed out loud.  I guess I thought a man that dealt with women all day long would know how the female psyche worked, and that no matter what, you didn't use the word flabby.  Or goopy, or squishy, or leaky, or hangy for that matter!

He sucked his words back in after I laughed.

Then he checked the heartbeat.  Next question, What does that heart beat sound like, a boy or a girl?  I've heard there's a difference in speed that can determine sex.

He said he didn't really believe that, but this heartbeat would mean boy.

Fabulous.

Thanks Doc.  See you in a month.

The tenacity of....his Father!

On Saturday Aidan decided he was going to learn to rollerblade.  And so he took Asher's rollerblades, his helmet, and headed out to the driveway.  He worked and worked.  He spent a lot of time on his knees, but he wouldn't quit.  After several hours he came in and his hair was soaking wet!  He reminds me of his Dad in this regard (not the sweating, wait a minute...) he just won't give up when he's got his mind set to something.

Let's take for instance, driving, Scott has decided he wants to drive again.  So he's made many phone calls, and has finally contacted the man at a rehab unit that will give him a driving test to see where he's at and what special devices he may need in the car, etc.  He's hoping to take that test before he starts school.  Anyhow, back to Aidan.

We had a ward pioneer parade/party @ the park on Saturday night.  So we headed down.  Part way through the party Aidan had to use the restroom.  Unbeknownst to me he left the park on his bike and went home to use the bathroom.  I saw him returning....on his rollerblades!  I received many comments from neighbors who saw him putting around the basketball court in his too-big rollerblades, determination etched on his face.  What a kid!

Little Friends

This is Cole & his best friend, Sara Jean.
Every day he simply wants to put on some footwear (boots, flip flops, etc) and go to her house.
She lives right next door, and she feels the same way about him.
In fact, her Mom told me she likes it when Cole stays for lunch because that's the best way to get Sara Jean to eat her lunch, rather than want to run off to Cole's house.
She even calls him "honey", and he responds.
So lately, they've been getting into a bit of trouble together.

They filled the bathroom sink with soap and water and proceeded to splash it all over the mirror, floor, etc.
They got into the outdoor fireplace and rubbed blackened wood all over the deck.
They rubbed lotion all over in their hair.
They threw mud at the neighbor's house & garage.
They ride their trikes WAY to far down the hill together.

Today Sara Jean was at our house and they both had filled backpacks with random things.  Cole said he wanted to go back over to Sara Jean's house.
I told him , "No, you need to stay here."
Sara Jean piped up with a huge grin, "It's okay, my house is dirty. We make a big mess"
Scott and I thought that was so funny.
Anyhow, here's to good friends.

Psuedonym

Aidan reminded me today that he would be picking a new name each day.
And would I like to know his name today?
Happiness Browning.
That was his pick.

Prejudice

Why do prunes have such a stigma?

A prune

When I asked where they were in the supermarket, I got the face, ("what? prunes?  are you gonna eat those Grandma?)  Then I found the prunes hidden on the baking aisle.  I felt a little like you do when you're standing in front of the condoms.  Like everyone is watching you.  Like you're doing something inappropriate.  Like you'd better hide them in the bottom of your cart.  And you know that old lady next to you staring down the flour is just waiting for you to leave so she can have her turn in front of the prunes...privately.

After all, a prune is simply a dried plum people.  Raisins don't get a bad rap.  They're not hidden on the bottom shelf.  People don't ask what you need them for and raise their eyebrows. They're actually a beloved children's snack!  So accepted in the world of dried fruits.

So let's stop the madness.  Embrace prunes.  We humans need more fiber anyhow.  Go out and get some prunes  and have a great day.  I know I will.

He's Free (3)

Today is Cole's birthday!
7-7-05
What an exciting day!
There were a lot of "firsts" for us.
This was the first time I drove and Scott rode shotgun in the middle of the night to the hospital.
This was the first time my epidural refused to work and I opted for morphine (big mistake) which made me vomit non-stop.
This was the first time I got a ticket driving home from the hospital.

Cole has been nonstop love.  He loves to love and be loved.  He would hold my hair when I nursed him, and that trend continues (not the nursing!!! please!).  He loves to hold my hair and lay by me.  He loves to gives hugs and kisses.  He loves to tell you he loves you, he likes your hair, your cute, he likes your face, he likes to wink at you when you're just sitting there in silence.  Maybe because he got a lot of lovin as a baby.  He was lucky to have his Daddy home all day to hold him and take naps with him.  His Aunty Em was there to keep his Mama sane
       (cole on Aunty Em's lap)
and she spent some good time loving him.  Then his Aunt Ging, Uncle Scott & fam came and spread some love.

Then there was his 2 brothers and sister, more aunts, uncles, many grandparents, etc.

(None of the above are staged.  Babies simply make you sleepy!)

He's been such a joy and so much fun.  Keeping us laughing and scratching our heads.  We're so lucky to have him.

You little Stinker!

Cole has figured out how to elicit a response from his ill mother.
He is not so good and going to bed and staying in bed ever since we got back from Disneyland where he slept with me every night.
So this evening, just like every other, he kept getting out of bed.
For the 6th time I said, "Cole, go get in your bed."
He looked at me with a pained expression and said, "Me gonna throw up".
I called his bluff, "No you're not, go to bed."
He responded, "Gonna poop then".

Nice.  Real nice.
